Alex Mustermann.
Born in Musterstadt in 1964, a qualified financial administrator (Diplom-Finanzwirt), married and father of two. After roles in district and state administration, he has led his home town since 1 November 2006 – as the Unabhaengig's Lord Mayor.
In 2014 and 2021 he was confirmed in office each time. Through the Lower Saxony Association of Cities, he champions fair funding for municipalities and dependable city finances.

Are you eligible to vote?
You may vote if you are at least 16 years old, hold German or another EU citizenship, and have been registered with your main residence in Musterstadt for at least three months.

Your polling card arrives by post
Around three weeks before the election, the polling card lands in your letterbox. It shows your polling station and everything you need on election day.
Step 3
Postal vote or polling station
No time on 13 September? Simply apply for a postal vote – online, in writing or in person at the town hall. Otherwise, head to your local polling station on election day.

At the polling station
Bring your polling card and ID card. In the polling room you'll get your ballot paper and take it into the booth – just for you.

Who is allowed to vote?
You are eligible to vote if, on election day, you are at least 16 years old, hold German or another EU citizenship, have been registered as resident in Musterstadt for at least three months and are entered in the electoral register.
How is the Lord Mayor elected?
You have one vote. Whoever receives more than half of the valid votes is elected. If no one reaches that, a run-off between the two best-placed candidates is held about two weeks later (expected on 27 September 2026).
Can I vote by post?
Yes. You can apply for a postal vote online, in writing or in person at the town hall – as soon as your polling card has arrived. You'll find the exact deadlines from the City of Musterstadt.
What do I need to bring to the polling station?
Ideally your polling card and an ID card or passport. You can also vote without the notification – your ID is enough.
When and where do I vote?
On Sunday, 13 September 2026, from 8 am to 6 pm – at the polling station shown on your polling card.
